*Šima Müllerová (1999) is a director, audiovisual artist, and storyteller associated with the wave of Neo-Romanticism. She first studied photography at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, and is currently finishing her studies of film directing at FAMU in Prague.
In her work, she moves on the edge of reality, offering a departure from it through fantasy imagery. Rather than observed reality, she explores various images of inner realities and other intangible spaces. Visually, she builds her work on powerful, symbolic imagery and themes, focusing on and specializing in working with analogue formats. In her dissertation, she invents and defines the genre of the "documentary fairy tale," a concept she embodies in her film Year of the Dragon. She often builds her films on a strong emotional arc, prompting the audience to navigate her film as an autonomous world in which everyone can find their own story.
In her films, she works extensively with the musical component and also ventures into the world of music videos; notably, her music video for the song České Moře / Bert&Friends received a nomination for the prestigious Anděl Awards for Music Video of the Year. However, her experimentation with music goes even further, as she is currently preparing her debut music album.
She is a Slovak Press Photo winner in the Portrait category. Her work has also received critical acclaim on the festival circuit; her film Creature of the Sun was awarded Best Experimental Film at FAMUFEST and won Best Soundtrack at the Iberi Soulplace Film Festival, among other accolades.
